toast and tea
pen & ink

monday, may 7th, 2012, 1:10 pm

MoCCA was a blast! met so many cool peeps and lots of good pics were taken TBUS (to be uploaded soon). free comic book day went down and lucky peoples went to Atomic Books to get their free copy of Mutant #3 which i did this Milk & Cheese parody for. last night was the Maryland Film Festival after party where we danced and talked to Bobcat Goldthwait! the animated shorts were sweet and existential and helped me enter a new level of cosmic understanding. i am in desperate need of young adult audiobook recordings so if you've got some - don't be holding out on me! also, i will begin a new round of submissions, so if you're a publisher and you're reading this, get ready 'cause i'm gonna knock your socks off! ...or something like that. Trinadot. word. ^_^

nullum gratuitum prandium
colored pencil and marker on paper
for The Comic Section

March 27th, 2012 11:11am
how is it that no one has insisted that i sit down and truly experience a nib and ink well? a few days ago i called it negligence but now it seems more like a well-meaning deference. if you're making do with technical pens why try a whole other technique that surely requires practice? well, i would like to grow. with a technical pen i found myself doing things that were cheap imitations of the nib pen - without knowing that i was aping a classical thing. well now count me a convert. i may blorp on the page alot but i know a painterly ink line when i see it. also sprung for a few sapphire and sienna w/c brushes for the gouacheing.

in other news i have been slowly constructing a body of portraits at my away studio. there is gold, there are dots, there are circles - on ladies. one has already sold and new painting surfaces are being constructed from the dismembered pieces of wooden palettes outside. i am not afraid of the raw wood. it will educate me as i embark on my journey as urban painting ninja with painter dan everett. also, a couple shows are coming together for April and May as well as MoCCA - guess what? i got into OTAKON! >o<

anemones
acrylic on wood composite panel

Sunday, March 11th, 2012 10:18 PM

well, it's a leap year and today is daylight savings: rarities. also a rarity? my posting. the kitten, Darjeeling, is galloping through the corridor and my entry for the upcoming newsprint periodical, the Comic Section, being put together by the talented Jee-Shaun Wang, is nearly done. the theme for this anthological piece is "The End of The End of The World" which answers perfectly my desire to commemorate apocalypse sequentially, via newsprint. the bulk of penciling Trinadot 4 is complete and inking is on the horizon waiting there with a bottle of india and stylus - an experiment for me, as i traditionally favor micron & faber-castell.

those who've heard of or read In the Hands of Boys, perhaps you've wanted to know what happens to Radojko and Anna? well, next month, at MoCCA, In the Hands of Boys II should appear, IN PRINT, at my exhibitor table. there will be prints and other frivolities including fart earrings i fashioned with my darling sister, Anjali.

contribution to quickie 3
graphite and gouache

October 5th, 2011 2:32 pm
not gonna lie: writing two issues at once rules. changing up the process helps keep things fresh. watched something that said human beings love mastery, in some cases more than money. still, gotta get that cake up.

Margot Mezune of Trinadot
colored pencil on tinted paper

Wednesday, Sept 7th, 2011 11:18 am
we know her as the little pregnant girl with the hair wrap. now that power has shifted in Trinadot she may decide to forgo hair covering. in this sketch her skin tone is much lighter and peachier than typically which would be more olive mocha, this was due to the availability of pencils at the time. drawn for commemorative SPX card.

Sunday, August 14th, 2011, 9:50 pm
getting ready for the Baltimore Comic Con by taking the ad out of the city paper and taping my face where stan lee's used to be. Trinadot #3 is gonna be out soon! and get ready for hotness with this Quickie zine in print. the people and scenarios borrowed from the Trinadot storyline. i lino cut and made some business cards today which have my insignia on the back. i left the little yellow box containing them in fragrance swatches torn from a teen vogue. if you're at comic con come get one and it'll smell goooood.

Trinadot Issue 3 cover

July 27th, 2011 Wednesday, 2:40 pm

with the heat and the furious effort to complete Issue 3 in time for Comixpress to print for SPX and the sun's proximity to earth you could say that i have earned the description "feverishly toiling" while others are undoubtedly tubing. those lucky fools and their incessant, enviable tubing on the Gunpowder. to dampen the rage I've been listening to old gospel and rejoicing that at 48 pages Trinadot #3 is the longest in the series so far. #4 and #5 will be written together to bring the first graphic novel to a close.

the enduring music that sustained me during the last stretch in squalor and heat:
Washington Philips - train your child from i am born to preach the gospel, Silver Leaf Quartette of Norfolk from oh! glory glory, Peerless Four - noah from southern journey vol 8: velvet voices, Johnny Cash - were you there (when they crucified my lord from the legend, Clara Ward - how i got over from the history of black gospel volume 2, Sister O.M. Terrell - swing low, chariot from bottles, knives, steel, Fisk Jubilee Singers - ezekiel saw de wheel from folk, gospel & blues: will the circle be unbroken, Rev Gary Davis - twelve gates to the city from if i had my way, The Soul Stirrers - jesus gave me water, Heavenly Gospel Singers - you go and i'll go with you from heavenly gospel singers vol 2 (1936-1937), and The Sensational Nightingales - at the meeting from it's gonna rain again.
